Our church was founded in 1950 as the “Greenway Church Of God In Christ” by Elder Robert L. Johnson. The church was located on Windmill Street in the central area of Fort Worth, Texas. 

Pastor Johnson passed away in 1969, and the search for a new minister began. A young and motivated minister, Robert L. Sample, was sent by Elder L. C. Castleberry, Superintendent of the Stop Six District, to conduct a revival.   After a week, the desire was that “we continue”.   At the close of the revival, the congregation unanimously agreed that this young “faith preacher” should be their new Pastor. In July, 1969, Bishop F. L. Haynes of the Texas Northeast Jurisdiction appointed Minister Sample as the Pastor of the Greenway Church of God In Christ. God gave courage to this dynamic young Pastor, who utilized his many gifts to reach souls for the Kingdom of Christ and he moved the church completely across town. In June of 1970 the church relocated to a larger edifice on Katy Street, in East Fort Worth, and the name was changed to Holy Tabernacle Church of God In Christ (HTC).

God greatly blessed HTC and it became a refuge for many who found solace during the 1970s. God’s Word is true and just as He promised, the people came. Once again, a larger facility was needed to amply provide for the people that God revealed would come from the North, East, South and West. In 1979 groundbreaking took place on a premier five acres site located at 2800 E. Loop 820 and Fitzhugh. In June 1981, our first worship service took place in “Phase I”, a new 18,500 square foot complex where HTC continued to experience growth during the 80s. Pastor Sample, who is known as a “Faith Preacher” and a “Builder”, secured five additional acres for the church at the 2800 E. South Loop 820 location where Phase II was added with 21,000 square feet of classroom, Nursery and Children’s church area, along with a beautiful Fellowship Hall. The addition was dedicated “debt free” on June 14, 1998. Phase III of the vision was dedicated “debt free” on June 20, 2009. This two-story 21,500 square foot Family Life Center houses a regulation size gymnasium, youth area, commercial kitchen, computer laboratory, exercise facility and additional classrooms.   Currently, God has provided additional acreage for further expansion of the Holy Tabernacle church family.
